Thomas Potter, Sr. 1755 - 1835

Thomas Potter, born about 1755 in Virginia, was the father of some of the Potter families whose lives intertwined with the Clevelands in our Arizona Clevelands' family line.

On 8 July 1782, Thomas Potter, age 27, married Ruth Moore, age 18, in Rutherford, North Carolina.

Some time later they moved to South Carolina, as there is record of their first son, John Potter, born in Pendleton District, South Carolina in 1795.

Other researchers believe Thomas and Ruth Moore Potter had eight children, including John, Thomas Jr. born 1799, Absalom born 1803, Lewis born 1804, and Joseph born 1806.

A Thomas Potter can be found in Federal censuses in several Indiana counties in 1820 and in Gibson County, Indiana in 1830.

Son John Potter is known to be in Saline County, Missouri by July of 1825.

Ruth Moore Potter died at age 65 in Gibson County, Indiana on 21 September 1829.

Thomas Potter Sr. died 1 January 1835 in Gibson County, Indiana at age 80.
